What Are The Best Foundation Acting Courses?

If you have joined the ranks of hopefuls looking for the best foundation acting course, then you will no doubt like to compare a few and chooses which one might be the best for you. Guess what, we’ve taken the hard work out of that particular search for you!

Acting Coach Scotland

This is a great, comprehensive acting course that will help you make the very most of your potential. At 38 weeks long it is one of the longest, and therefore most in depth one year acting course you can find. It includes coaching from professionals in the industry, personal audition training, more public performances than any other HNC in Scotland, and 80% more contact time than a traditional HNC course. The classes are small, no more than 12, which guarantees you one on one time and support, and means more of a chance to get some actual acting done. Intensive acting, voice and movement coaching is followed up with public performance opportunities and specialist study in Shakespeare and Acting for Camera. Previous clients have gone on to win Scottish BAFTAS and even the lead in Netflix series, which is a great accolade for a small acting student!

Government funding is also available for Scottish acting students, which is another plus.

Dorset School Of Acting

These guys are pretty passionate about the arts, there’s no doubt about it. The school is set in the gorgeous South coast area (although a good view is not the be all and end all of an acting course!) Your year with the Dorset school will offer you a vocational qualification and promises to make you into a professional performer whether you want to go straight into the industry or decide to carry on your training. The course lasts for 30 weeks.

Rose Bruford College

This 22 week acting course will offer you in depth training to further you in your acting career and promises to give you new skills, confidence and invaluable techniques so that you can either go on with your training or go straight into a career. There will be weekly skills classes, plus a show reel and film project, and you will have a week where you can practise your audition skills in front of a panel of professional directors and casting directors.

Oxford Drama

The name “Oxford” instantly conjures up ideas of top level study, doesn’t it? This course is good, there’s no doubt about that, and it has an impressive list of previous student’s successes on its home page. You will learn acting techniques, plus voice and movement, as well as have the opportunity to work on some stage combat training. It lasts two terms, and promises you over 32 hours of tuition per week.

RADA

This highly prestigious foundation acting course offers a good range of acting coaching in various media, including movement, dance, singing, text analysis and a few different specialist classes. It is a shorter course than some, lasting only 24 weeks, and it is incredibly popular, meaning that it may be hard to get into and you will not receive any feedback. It is also a vastly expensive course with no government funding.

If you are looking for the best one year acting course you have to take into account what you will actually get from the course in terms of skills and techniques, as well as costs, lifestyle and location. Hopefully you can choose the best course from the above!
